24 Good Things That Happened in 2024

I planned to write ’24 good things that happened in 2024′ in late December, however we had an incredibly busy post-Christmas-period, so this post was put on the back burner.

I do admit I have been a little inconsistent with blogging the past couple of years. I’m trying my best to get back into a routine, but it seems that I write whenever I have a spare moment in the week. That being said, writing still brings me a lot of joy, I love reflecting on anything and everything and the community is amazing. It’s pretty crazy that I’ve been in the blogging community since the live journal and piczo days, which I remember having when I was fifteen… Twenty years later, I’m still typing away on the internet!

Any who… here’s 24 memorable moments that made my 2024 wonderful.

Cotswolds break with my mum and Archie

This was such a lovely little holiday with my mum and furry child. We explored so many little villages near-by to the Cotswolds and stayed in the cutest cottage. I’m planning to go back to The Artist Residence this January for a short stay with Joe and Archie. I’m hoping to have more energy in my second trimester to do some exploring. If not, I will be relaxing and eating my heart out.

Solo spa days

Solo spa days are heavenly. I went to The Grove in Watford a fair few times in 2024 to de-stress. I loved going for a long swim, using the fancy gym and eating delicious foods. The massages are also amazing at The Grove – which makes me want to book another spa day with a massage pronto!

Getting back into a routine with exercise – found my love for running again and being consistent with the gym

I have been in my fittest shape that I’ve been in years. I went into 2024 with an aim to improve my cardiovascular and my mental health, as well as a focus to get down to a healthy weight that I was happy with. I did want to continue this into 2025, however, my pregnancy has been my priority and at the moment I’m exercising in small doses and won’t be running during pregnancy. I’ll get back into a stricter routine after I give birth.

John Mayer Live

Watching John Mayer perform live was on my bucket-list for the longest time and I have to say he was incredible – he has such a beautiful voice.

Afternoon Tea at The Langham with my mum

A lovely London day with my mum. We went to the ever-so-fancy Langham for afternoon tea. We felt a little out of place with the posh crowd, however, it was delicious!

Sopwell House Spa Break

I throughly enjoyed our one night stay at Sopwell House in St Albans. We had a gorgeous spa day, an amazing room and dinner at Omboo, which was incredible. We’re planning to do this package again in February as a little ‘babymoon’ get-away.

Greece

We had a gorgeous week away in Greece, an all inclusive relaxing type of hols. I am keen to go back to Greece with our little one in a few years.

Sweden Eurovision Getaway

Joe and I travelled to Sweden for Eurovision fun with Joe’s uni friends. It’s always nice to do a holiday with friends.

Legoland with my nephews

Joe and I took our nephews to Legoland and we all had a great time!

Race for Life 5k

I ran my first 5k since 2019 at the Race for Life in Watford with a steady 7:30 pace. I was really proud of myself and raised money for charity!

Wimbledon Semis

I managed to bag tickets to the Wimbledon Semis, we saw a few matches on No.1 court and drank loads of pimms. An amazing experience and I would go every year if I could.

Wales

Wales was a beautiful trip. Lots of interesting hikes and cosy days in the cottage reading.

Forwards Festival

A fun weekend away at Forwards Festival with Joe’s uni friends and partners. We saw Loyle Carner perform – amazing!!!

Rome

Rome was my favourite holiday in 2024. We did so much exploring on foot and ate the most amazing foods. Italian food is hands down the best! I loved pottering about around the tourist-y locations – such as the Colosseum. Also, Vatican City was rather interesting and very grand. I did love our hotel choice too, The Hoxton, super pricey but we had such a lovely stay there.

Northern Lights in my garden

We were incredibly lucky to see the northern lights in Iceland in early 2023 and it was so beautiful to see them again in my back garden in 2024. It is really hard to spot them without a camera pointing to the sky!

Madrid trip

A couple of days away in Madrid was lush. We weren’t here for a holiday as such, more for medical reasons, but we enjoyed staying in this lovely apartment that we found on Air bnb.

I had been craving Honest Greens since the last time we travelled here, I had different Honest Greens dishes every single day while here – it’s so good and I wish they had Honest Greens in the UK. We also went to a Big Mamma Group restaurant while we were here which was fabulous!

Bath Adventures

We had a super short stay at The Bird in Bath for my belated birthday celebrations. Bath was beautiful – I adored the cream-toned buildings and the fallen autumn leaves on our walk. Mr Doodle artwork potted around the town was great to see as well.

Pregnancy

This was a major highlight in 2024. Finding out I was pregnant officially a week before my 35th birthday. It’s been a super long journey for my husband and I and we feel very lucky to have got to this mile-stone and all we can hope for is a healthy and smooth pregnancy journey and a healthy baby. Eight years of longing for this really does feel like a miracle.

Kew Gardens Xmas Lights

I’ve never been to Kew Gardens before, so it was really nice to do the Christmas walk with all the lights on the 1st December with my mum.

Christmas

Christmas is always a special time: slowing down for the holidays, seeing lots of family and friends, decorating the house, gifting presents to loved ones, enjoying all the cheese and crackers and devouring a humungous roast. Also, cracking out the board games – our faves are six second scribbles and Articulate.

Interesting Walks

I always enjoy long chatty walks with a friend or two. In 2024 I continued my interesting walks around my village or when I was exploring other parts of the UK. Sometimes I walk alone – but only in my area as I’m comfortable with the routes around here.

Either alone or with a friend, these walks are very therapeutic. I don’t look at my phone on these walks unless I want to take a snap. I enjoy my surroundings in nature and the company I’m with.

Impromptu date afternoon at The Glass House, The Grove

Joe and I had a little date afternoon at The Grove where we dined at the all you can eat buffet in The Glasshouse. It was amazing and I’m thinking of taking my grandad here for his 90th birthday in April!

Feeling good mentally

I have a tendency to bounce back from darkness and it’s fair to say I’ve recovered from a lot in 2024. I was struggling with PTSD symptoms and I did EMDR therapy for a few months at the start of the year to tackle the PTSD and past traumas head on. It was a struggle at first as I didn’t want to think about any trauma I’d been through, I just wanted to dissociate and pretend these things didn’t happen. Also, I had to come to terms with my illness. After some serious months of therapy, I was feeling good, I was ready to run again and find a good routine with exercise to help my mind further. After the therapy course was complete, I no longer had PTSD symptoms.

Daily phone calls with my grandad

My grandad is one of my best friends and I call him daily to check in. He always cheers me up and has such a positive outlook on life. He’s always interested in what I have to say and I love hearing what he’s been up to. He appreciates every single phone call I make.

I know this seems a little odd to add as a ‘good thing in 2024’, but it reminds me how lucky I am to still have a grand parent alive and well and able to talk to daily. I do visit him occasionally too!

So, that’s 24 good things that happened in 2024! This was a beast of a post to write, however, I loved reflecting on the year and highlighting my favourite moments.

I had more highlights than lowlights in 2024 and that itself is a huge achievement for me. I’ve entered 2025 with a positive frame of mind and I’m excited for Summer and the months beyond.

I hope you’ve had a wonderful 2024 or if you’ve been hanging by a thread in 2024 that’s ok too! Entering a new year gives us a chance to have a fresh start and make changes! Wishing you all a healthy and happy 2025.
