Well for half a day! I aways thought some day might come when social media apps ‘die’ and it did, as of 5pm yesterday evening Facebook, Instagram, Whats app and LinkedIn servers went ‘down’ in the internet world.
It only just got restored at 11:10pm last night!
The world without social media!
Did you have a nice social media detox? Or were you constantly checking the apps anxiously? Or did you scroll your heart out on Twitter (the only app working for me)?
For the first time in ages, I didn’t actually look at my phone till 9pm and thought this is a bit odd? I haven’t received any messages or got any notifications from Instagram!
But this got me thinking why blog’s are SO vital – I’ve mentioned this numerous times on my blog over the years! WordPress didn’t go down for me and I was up until the early hours blogging. Blog’s will never die (unless the server breaks), but social media can die and will die out. Only time will tell…
I saw some old bloggers joke on Twitter about starting up ‘blogspot’ again and I just thought, well, you’re missing out really! What if Instagram deleted all your content and followers you’ve worked so hard to build? But your blog remains intact and well it goes without saying that the blog community is absolutely fantastic! Those old bloggers really are missing out!
I really do think those popular old bloggers have become so obsessed with Instagram and the likes of Tik Tok. But have forgotten the real purpose of helping their followers through their blogs. Oh well, more room for others to grow on the blogsphere.
I still read blogs daily. For advice or reading about someone’s monthly favourites. It’s my down time and I bloody love it!
Before I press publish at 6am this morning, yes I’m up early (had the worst night’s sleep) I just wanted to say that I’m proud of this blog and I don’t think I’ll ever stop blogging. I will forever be grateful for having this little space on the interwebs to pour out my musings.
What are your thoughts on the apps crashing? Did you have a nice social media detox?
I did wonder what the hell was going on yesterday until I googled Instagram down?!!
I agree with you, blogs will be forever and social media will die out.
Same, I googled it too haha! Yes girly! x
I love that people still think blogs are a thing and get excited to post / read! I started a blog years ago but deleted it bcos people that knew me thought it was stupid / cringey, I’ve recently started a new one but it’s soo different from when I first started! Instagram is a lot different compared to what it was like when I had a ‘blog insta’ it’s a lot harder for my posts to grow! I love that you’re still passionate about your blog! 🙂
Oh no, never let people tell you those things – you do you! Blogs aren’t stupid or cringey! I find the whole ‘influencer’ culture a bit weird but not cringey.
I agree, it’s the same for me, my posts on Instagram get barely any engagement as much as they used to but it’s fine, I’ve learned to accept it. Stories get more views. People cant be bothered to ‘like’ grid posts anymore, they just like a nosey. x
I posted a blog post yesterday around the time the crash happened so it was difficult to promote my new post via Instagram but I still posted it on Twitter. There are so many people who only have Instagram and can only view my posts via Instagram so it was kind of frustrating. There was nothing I could do on my end so I just played some Animal Crossing. haha
I used to be on Blogger/Blogspot but I read a post somewhere saying because Google owes Blogspot that with Google ever decided to get rid of Blogger there goes all your blog posts which is why I decided to switch to WordPress this year! ♥
Ah yeah, that’s really annoying! I still haven’t played Animal Crossing – I want it really badly.
Yeah, I made the switch to WordPress a few years back too, costly but worth it. x
I loved that everything went down, it was freeing!

It was wasn’t it! x
I wish I had a nice detox but I was refreshing like mad haha I hate social media but I am well and truly addicted! It is so fickle though and I am glad I have my blog too! xx

I’m well and truly addicted too, but it was odd for me to be so busy and only check my phone at 9pm that night! Yes, so glad I have my blog too. x
i hope blogs are evergreen always!! i definitely won’t miss social media if it ever goes out of style; in fact, the more breaks i take from it, the harder it is to come back :’) long-form sharing & writing is so much more valuable than the transient nature of social media. i enjoyed the day it was down, i ended up reading a lot more that day than usual, it was lovely xx
Me too lovely! Ahh that’s good, I always want to read but never find the time to fit it into my day. x
I didn’t care in the slightest about Insta etc going down. I always prefer reading blogs anyway! x
It was refreshing without it to be honest! Same much prefer reading blogs. x
