Wearing SPF isn’t just for the summer months, you should wear it all year round.
When I used to work for a beauty company, I learnt a lot about the benefits of wearing sunscreen every single day. And, in my teens I learnt that it’s one of the most vital things you can do in life according to Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Wear Sunscreen‘ song.
“If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists.” And on that note, sunscreen is so vital, I wear it every single day. It’s in my Estee Lauder double wear foundation, as well as my sunscreens (obviously)!
Why is it so important?
Your skin can be harmed by constant sun exposure and UV rays, whether or not you see a burn. Sunburn is an immediate reaction, but damage from the sun occurs over a lifetime.
Sunscreen helps to prevent facial brown spots and skin discolourations and it slows down the development of wrinkled, premature ageing skin. It also helps to reduce the appearance of facial red veins and blotchiness. So it’s important to apply sunscreen every single day.
Any who… Here are 5 of the best sunscreens on the market.
Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Physical Daily Defense Protection Quotidienne SPF 30
The packaging on this totally won me over if I’m being frank. I love the details and the blue touches. Anyway, free of what Drunk Elephant calls the “Suspicious 6” (essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, fragrance/dyes, and SLS), this sunscreen has only quality ingredients.
Described as a lightweight physical sunscreen made with 20% zinc oxide, Umbra Sheer provides an SPF 30 broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Infused with algae extract rich in antioxidants, sunflower sprout that neutralises free radicals, and grape juice that soothes and calms redness, Umbra Sheer is suitable for application on the face, neck, chest, and the rest of the body. The product dispenses as a lightweight white cream that has a slightly “gloopy” texture.
Priced at £29.

The Ordinary Mineral UV Filters SPF 15 with Antioxidants
The Ordinary Mineral UV Filters SPF 15 with Antioxidants, is described as “a powerful sunscreen that keeps skin healthy.”
Smoothing into skin without leaving behind a greasy film, the silky sun cream uses Zinc Oxide to protect against UV rays, whilst a Bio-Active Antioxidant Network helps to neutralise free radical damage. Working to replenish deep hydration and soothe any irritation, the nourishing formula leaves skin strengthened, fortified and healthy.
Priced at £7.95. Vegan and cruelty free!
Green People Facial Sunscreen SPF 30
This sunscreen is scent free which is great! It blends into the skin really well. I’m a big fan of this one! Also vegan which is another bonus.
It’s highly effective, broad-spectrum protection against UVA & UVB rays. Contains high levels of antioxidants from Edelweiss and Rosemary. As well as anti-ageing Green Tea, which protects and maintains collagen and elastin in the skin. Suitable for sensitive skin.
Priced at £20.
Environ’s RAD SPF 15
Although, you should be wearing at least a SPF 30, I thought I would include Environ’s RAD as this is the sunscreen which got me into wearing SPF every day. It’s quite a thick formula, however, is great because a little goes a long way.
I’m unsure of the price of it as I got it when I was working at an anti-ageing beauty company.
Supergoop Glow Screen SPF 30
This one has a tinted tanner in the formula which I quite like as it doesn’t show up on the skin, it blends in lovely. This is different to all the other sunscreens in this blog post because it is a tinted sunscreen. The formula is non greasy and works beautifully under make-up.
Priced at £15.
Do you wear SPF? What’s your go to brand? I’d love to know in the comments below as I’m always on the hunt for more to try.

I love ANYTHING drunk elephant make, so I’d love to try their sun cream! Personally, I’m in Australia so I use the cancer council sunscreen because some of the money goes to skin cancer research xx

Thanks lovely! It’s really good. I reach for it most days. x
Keeping this post in my favourites for later! I’ve only recently found a sunscreen that works for me – it’s Vichy, I don’t have the name in English but in French it’s called Capital Soleil, matifying cream. I use it as my daily moisturiser and it’s the best!

I have become so passionate about spf use in the last couple of years, and I know it’s all gonna pay off years down the line! I love these recommendations. Def want to try the drunk elephant & the ordinary ones. I recently picked up the laura mercier tinted moisturiser (spf 30) after wanting it for years, and I couldn’t recommend it more! It blends so easily into the skin & provides a light amount of coverage that really evens out the skin x
