Turning 30

Why hello, as you can tell by the title I turned 30. I’m now part of the thirties club. And, I feel totally fine about it!

I celebrated the day in London, Joe treated me to lunch at Clos Maggorie – it was superb. And at the weekend, a bunch of friends and family celebrated bottomless brunch at Dirty Martini and then we had a pub lunch on the Sunday with family. I feel well and truly spoilt, and feeling very grateful for those I have in my life.

Any who, I wrote a list of 30 things I’d like to do before I’m 30, so I thought I’d re-visit the list and write some sort of birthday reflections post on all the great places and things I’ve done before turning the big 3-0.

1) Visit Bath
Joe and I visited Bath last year for my 29th birthday and it was glorious. We stayed at the beautiful Gainsborough Hotel and loved every second.

2) Eat at Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck
Sadly we haven’t had the chance to experience Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck, but one day… one day.

3) Visit Budapest
We visited Budapest back in February for Joe’s birthday. I remember stuffing our faces with glorious foods. Delightful.

4) Visit Greece
We explored Santorini a little while ago and loved it. It’s such a beautiful country. Food was amazing too!
One highlight for me was watching the sunset and wine and cheese tasting – one of the BEST days ever!

5) Visit Edinburgh
Joe, my mother in law and sister in law took a city break to Edinburgh and it was amazing. Also tried a vegan sausage roll for the first time… yummy!

6) Eat afternoon tea at Cafe Royal
For mother’s day I treated my mum to afternoon tea at Cafe Royal. It was beautiful.

7) Buy a house
We bought a house in July 2018, I can’t believe it’s almost been a year and a half!! I love our little home, it’s so cosy and perfect for the two of us.

8) Go back to Thailand
As an early 30th birthday treat I booked flights to go to Koh Samui in Thailand in September. It was lovely, a nice relaxing break.
We also got to feed the elephants which was such a magical experience!

9) Eat afternoon tea at Claridges
We haven’t had a chance to eat afternoon tea at Claridges, but it’s on the list, so one day…

10) Eat charlie and the chocolate factory afternoon tea at One Aldwych
Joe and I celebrated our 8th anniversary here, food was lovely – very sweet!

11) Get married
Joe and I got married in November 2016. It was the most amazing day of our lives.

12) Eat at Clos Maggiore
For my 30th birthday, Joe treated me to a three course meal at Clos Maggiore, it was delicious. I’d highly recommend going, it’s the most beautiful restaurant in London and the food is out of this world.

13) Eat Afternoon Tea at The Ritz
One day I’ll eat at the Ritz, one day!

14) Take care of my body – size 8/10
My weight has fluctuated so much in the past 3 years which is really annoying. At the moment I’m a size 12, but I’m trying to get back down to a 10.

15) Stress less
From someone who used to stress all the time, I’ve completely changed! I like to think I have a calm head now and I rarely get stressed.

16) Take up a exercise class – once a week
I haven’t joined any exercise classes, however I have been going down the gym 3/4 times a week!

17) Drink cocktails at Nightjar
Joe and I visited Nightjar a few years ago, really unusual cocktails. Quite expensive but worth the money!

18) Drink cocktails at Scarfes bar
We visited Scarfes bar last year and it was lovely.

19) Stay the night somewhere fancy in the UK
We stayed at the beautiful Gainsborough Hotel in Bath last year for my birthday! But, I’d love to stay at the Shard one day.

20) Visit Rome
21) Visit Marrakech
22) Visit Iceland
23) Go back to Orlando and enjoy the theme parks
I haven’t had the opportunity to visit the four countries above, but they are on my bucket list. Maybe in 2020-2021 we will go.

24) See Nan and Grandad at least twice a month
I see my grandparents every Wednesday after work, it’s always nice catching up with them!

25) Buy some fancy lingerie at Agent Provocateur
I haven’t bought fancy lingerie yet… again, one day I will.

26) Invest in a nice designer handbag (Gucci Soho disco or YSL)
I treated myself to a Gucci bag for my 30th birthday, it’s sooo pretty. I’m in love with it!

27) Go to the gym twice a week
As I mentioned above, I try and go to the gym 3-4 times a week. So far I’ve been good sticking to a routine after work.

28) Eat at Duck & Waffle again
I loved Duck and Waffle when Joe and I went a couple of years ago, however, since going veggie, I’m not too fussed about going anymore.

29) Stay at the Gainsborough Hotel in Bath
As mentioned above, Joe treated me to the beautiful Gainsborough hotel for my birthday last year. The spa was gorgeous and the massage I had was incredible.

30) Enjoy a spa weekend at Champney’s in Tring
I want to go to Champney’s sooo bad, it looks beautiful there. Maybe one weekend, I will treat Joe and myself to going.

So that’s the list of 30 things before I’m 30! I feel like I’ve ticked off most of the list but still a few more to try/visit. I’ve had some truly amazing experiences in my twenties, feeling incredibly blessed and lucky. I’m now looking forward to what my thirties will bring!

What a great list! Glad you got a lot of things on it checked off with some left over for your thirties!

I’ll be joining the forties club in a couple years and have TONS of things I’d like to do before then but probably won’t have time to with the kids kicking around.

Thanks Kathleen :). Still quite a bit to do – but I’m sure I’ll get to do those things in my 30’s. x
