Why I’m Doing A Shopping Ban This Month

So, I used to be really good with my savings, however January rolled around and t’was a bit of a spendy month for me.

I’d just gotten out of hospital and wanted to ‘treat yo self‘ as they say! You could say November and December were months that I didn’t spend a penny, nor did I have my phone attached to my side. I had a proper digital detox and spending ban shall we say.

January has made my bank account cry (I’d like to think my money has gone to a good cause – i.e wedding photographs printed on A3 card with frames, buying new sofas and other house bits, alongside some beauty treats), so, I think I need another shopping ban again – for the month of February I will be doing so!

I’ve also seen a few bloggers do these, so I wanted to jump on the bandwagon.

This January I have given 2 bags worth of clothes to charity. I feel that these items no longer sparked joy and my wardrobe was bursting at the seams! I’m trying to live a minimal life without 289428 items of clothing in my wardrobe!

Speaking of minimalism, the last 2 years I’ve been really into it and removing items that filled my mind with clutter. I wrote a whole blog post about it here if your interested.

I’m not a hardcore minimalist, however I love the idea of putting myself on spending bans on beauty and fashion items and trying not to let consumerism get the better part of me.

It’s hard though, as I want to write about new items all the time. However, sometimes I’ll re-discover beauty products and fashion items in my collection and natter on about how great they were again. It swings in roundabouts.

Another reason why it’s hard is because Joe and I want to re-decorate our bathroom, living room and hallway. We plan to completely strip the bathroom and start over. We will be using savings though! I just want our house to feel like ‘our home’ and at the moment it doesn’t.

To summarise I’d rather save my money for experiences, holidays and our home. Let’s see if I can do this – I’ll report back to you all in March!

Would you try a spending ban? What are your thoughts on minimalism? Let me know in the comments below as I’d love to know!

I’m on a spending ban too, as I’m exactly the same as you. Wanting to declutter, but not being a hardcore minimalist. It’s always a great feeling though when you take stuff to the charity, as it’ll go to a better home and earn them so money too. Good luck with the ban!xx

It’s so hard isn’t it?! Especially when things have sentimental value.
      You too – good luck!

January was a weirdly spendy month for me too – it’s usually the opposite for most people! I’m banning myself from any new makeup during February as a result too… Decluttering my life is something I’m slowly but surely attempting

I know right?! Me too – no more beauty bits!

It doesn’t help that my husband’s birthday is this month so I need to spend a bit for that! Maybe March should be my shopping ban month 🙈!

I’m also trying out a spending ban right now. I spent way too much last term at uni so this term I’ve decided to try and not buy clothes or make up and only spend money on the things I need.

This is awesome and I wouldn’t mind trying at all. In fact I said that, but have failed last month, so lets give it another shot this month. As I’m typing this, there’s a bin bag full of things I’m getting rid of. There will probably be more when I’m done. Ha!!

Deffo give it a go! That’s great news that you’ve already sorted things you no longer need! Good luck with the spending ban!

Any time :). So far I’m finding it really hard when there is LOADS of sales on… But a much needed spending ban needed to happen!
