Babymooning in the Canaries. Our last holiday abroad as a couple before the baby arrives! My musings on our time away.
An all-inclusive-relaxing-type of holiday which was not too far away from the UK was what we desired for our babymoon. I’ve seen other couples go to some stunning locations further a field, which I would have loved to do but I just needed to be close to home, incase of anything going wrong.

I travelled around 22-23 weeks pregnant – in my second trimester. I had a few baby concerns while we were away, such as sickness, an upset stomach and spotting, so my anxiety did get the better of me some days and I wanted to fly home immediately to see a midwife, however I called the triage maternity unit for some re-assurance on what to do.
Despite my concerns, I’m glad we went as relaxation and being in the sun was what we deeply needed. Although most days you would find me in the gym working out to take my mind off my concerns and try to rid of the anxiety. So don’t be fooled by the smiles in the snaps – I can put on a brave face any time of the day.

Any who, I just wanted to share some photos of our time away alongside some thoughts and feelings. It was really nice dressing up each evening as I don’t usually wear a lot of make-up or wear anything other than leggings or joggers these days! Us pregnant ladies need to stay comfy after all.

We didn’t explore much of the island apart from one day we decided to go on a rocky hike for an hour and a half, which was nice. I would have liked to have travelled to some other beaches near-by, but we didn’t get the chance to this holiday.
I used to travel to the Canaries a lot when I was younger, it always seemed to be the family holiday location to go to.

While I was relaxing on the plane, in the sun or in the spa, I finished listening to ‘A Court of Frost and Starlight’. Which was my least favourite of the series as I didn’t feel like there was much to the story compared to the others. I moved onto the final book of the series, ‘A Court of Silver Flames’ which I’m enjoying but listening to in small doses. After I finish the ACOTAR series – which has taken me around a year to read or listen to all five books, I’m moving on to ‘Fourth Wing’ and that book series, as I’m enjoying the romance-fantasy genre a lot lately.
I’m still working my way through ‘The Science of Nutrition’ book too, but didn’t take this on holiday as it’s pretty hefty.

Anyway back to the holiday chat. We did some planet and star spotting while we were there as the skies were clear and the planets were aligned (a rarity). I have this planet app on my phone that tells me where the planets are… Gosh, Joe and I are such nerds aren’t we!
We also had some tasty foods and found a spot to watch the Six Nations rugby.

I’m glad we got away for some winter sun and enjoyed time together as a two-some. Though, in hindsight and I know it’s so hard to predict of any complications when you’re in another country, however, I most likely would have booked a lovely staycation in the UK and if I needed to go to any near-by hospitals I could have easily done so. I know the Canaries must have hospitals on the islands, but I wasn’t aware of them and how much they would cost.
I did see my midwife the following day we flew home and rest assured everything is all fine. Baby’s heartbeat was beating away nicely and she was most likely having a little party in my belly.
I will get round to writing about my second trimester in full detail in a few weeks as it has been a little challenging here and there compared to my first, and I think a lot of readers enjoyed the first trimester post. So, I will schedule into my plan!
Hope you’re having a lovely day or evening! Catch up soon.
Sounds like a lovely break! Food & weather looks delicious! x
