Postcards From Beautiful Rome

Before I get started on my musings of Rome, I just want to say that my blog’s anniversary date has flown past and I have officially been writing on this space for 10 years!

Any who, Rome has been on my bucket-list for an extremely long time and I’m happy to say I’ve ticked it off the list. I had copious amounts of pizza, pasta and gelato and I’m really sad to be home to be quite honest with you! If only we could have limitless amounts of time to travel around the world eh?!

Also, we are so fortunate that we have all these lovely European countries near-by. Rome is only a two and a half hour flight away from London.

Where we stayed…

We stayed at the ever-so trendy ‘The Hoxton’.

I very much enjoyed our 3 night stay here. The room was very modern and chic. And, the bathroom had a rainfall shower which I loved! The food in the restaurant was great, not many vegetarian options on the menu but we made do of what they had. Very tasty though.

The Hoxton is less than an hour’s walk away from the main tourist attractions which we didn’t mind as we love walking and getting our steps in.

What we did…

We did all the tourist-y things such as the Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, Forum, Spanish Steps and Vatican City. I found Trevi Fountain incredibly busy during the day and at night, but it seemed like an iconic thing to do.

Speaking of night, it was completely safe to walk around during the night. We had no problems what-so-ever.

I did find Rome a very active holiday, so much to see and do, which I prefer to relaxing holidays. Well I like a balance of both. But we covered a lot in four days.

I’d highly recommend doing a tour of the Colosseum and Forum. We booked through TripAdvisor for the tours.

Vatican City was really interesting to wander around. We queued for about an hour to get inside St Peter’s Basilica, which was very grand and impressive. It’s also free to enter but you can buy a tour if you’d like to.

Where we ate…

I adore Italian foods and we ate at some lovely authentic Italian restaurants.

Caligola was located near Vatican City and we ate some delicious pasta, devoured a bottle of red and the desserts were heavenly. I wouldn’t say this place was my ultimate favourite pasta I tried on our holiday, but it was still very good.

Also located near Vatican City is Old Bridge Gelateria. An incredible ice-cream stop! My favourite gelato of the hols.

If you go to Rome, you MUST try Pizzium! Really interesting flavours on the pizzas. I devoured a courgette base with autumn vegetables – SO tasty. Joe had a walnut-cheesy dreamy pizza that he also really enjoyed.

Ce Stamo A Pensa is this super cute narrow restaurant where you can have picky bits and tasty wine. I enjoyed the experience and the lasagna was nice but not my favourite meal of the hols.

The Hoxton where we stayed has a lovely aubergine pasta and some scrummy pancakes on their brunch menu.

I sadly can’t remember the name of this restaurant, however it was located in Trastevere. The pasta was nice but not my fave, oh and I enjoyed eating it in the silver pan!

Pasta e Vino had the BEST cheesiest and peppery pasta, as well as the best tiramisu I indulged in Rome. And, the rosemary bread was very tasty too. Highly recommend this place!

I really enjoyed our Rome adventure – first time I’ve been and I’m dying to go back to Italy already, perhaps to explore some other parts! The weather in mid-September was a bit hit and miss. It rained two days we were there but that didn’t stop us from adventuring around. The other two days were super hot!
