The Best 12 Restaurants in Hertfordshire

I have lived in Hertfordshire near enough my entire life and there is an incredible food scene here.

So, I wanted to share the very best, the crème de la crème of all the restaurants potted around Hertfordshire that I keep coming back to.

I do post a lot of my foodie reviews on my Insta, watfordfoodiefinds too, if you fancy checking that out. It’s not just Watford foodie spots, it’s Herts and London focused despite the name.

Any who, in no particular order… the best restaurants are:

Flourish Bakery

Flourish is located near the Tudor estate in Watford. It is the BEST bakery locally and usually jam-packed, however, they have extra seating outside.

Everything I’ve tried on the menu has been outstanding! They have a pizzeria next door which is also lovely.

They used to do afternoon tea for home deliveries and these incredible seasonal packages which were incredible and so affordable, but they sadly stopped doing them for some reason.

Omboo

If you’re on the look-out for somewhere fancy or for a special occasion and you love your Asian cuisine, then you must try Omboo inside of Sopwell House! Such a beautiful restaurant which is located in St Albans.

There are some veggie options on the menu, but a lot more choice for the meat-eaters. The black cod is so tender and the one thing I must have when I visit here. Also the seaweed is incredible, it’s full of so much flavour. I do love the sushi here too!

The Florist

Another restaurant that’s based in Watford that is ever so picturesque is The Florist. A great spot for brunch with the girls, or if you’re all brunched out, do try their roast dinners on Sundays, they are fantastic!

The Bell

The Bell in Bovingdon is hands down the BEST pub locally. I love a roast dinner here and as you can see, I love their ‘cheesecake of the day’.

The portions are super generous (the roast dinners especially), so you don’t really need to bother with starters. I would try and squeeze room in for dessert if you can! Trust me, the cheesecake is worth it!

The service is really good too and it’s dog friendly!

Crazy Bear

The Crazy Bear is slightly further-a-field in Beaconsfield, but definitely worth a visit. We indulged in a 12-course Thai here for our anniversary and veggie afternoon tea in their English restaurant for my birthday. Both were equally delicious.

I would like to try their veggie roast at some point.

HATCH

HATCH is a lovely brunch spot in St Albans. I sometimes take myself on a solo-date here when I’m around the area. Or sometimes meet my husband for lunch here when he’s at work.

Per Tutti

So, I was a bit torn to choose between my fave Italian restaurants in Hertfordshire… it came down to Per Tutti and Zaza.

I’ve dined a lot more at Per Tutti so I thought that’s got to be the one! We usually go to the Berkhamsted one, however I know there is one in St Albans too. I tend to always get the same dish for main which is this creamy veggie pasta with a sprinkling of cheese, it’s delicious!

Daisy & Co

Daisy & Co is a trendy brunch place in Berkhamsted! I adore their hot honey halloumi brunch dish and their veggie brekkie is SO GOOD. Our dachshund always comes along with us here!

The Grove

The Grove is super fancy! I’ve dined at most of the restaurants here, Madhu’s, The Glasshouse, The Lounges, The Stables and the spa’s cafe. I do love the sushi in the lounges but also the salmon wrap in the spa cafe is amazing. I would like to do the hot air balloon tables one day, but they keep selling out!

Seasons Cafe

Seasons Cafe is a pretty restaurant based in Amersham, which is slightly further-a-field but is worth it for their incredible brunch options.

GAILS

I spend far too much time in GAILS, but for good reasons of course! The overnight oats are dreamy, as well as their beautiful pastries like the chocolate-almond-crossiant-thing.

They are planning on opening a GAILS in Watford, but I’m usually at the St Albans branch or the one in Berkhamsted.

Ocean Bells

And lastly, Ocean Bells on Watford High Street is great for a pastry and coffee or something on their lunch menu.

Other restaurants worth a shout-out are Nana’s for incredible Lebanese food, Cassio Lounge is perfect for brunch options and Giggling Squid is a fab Thai restaurant.
