Postcards From Wales

I love exploring different parts of the UK! It has been on my bucket-list to do more of this over the next five or so years! As a bonus, I get to take my beloved dachshund with me.

We adventured to Wales the other week and we stayed at this super cute cottage in Llanfairpwllgwyngyll that we found on Air bnb. Which we made sure was dog friendly!

Joe used one of his ‘remote working weeks’ for this little get-a-way, while I had the week to chill, explore and do whatever I desired.

Where we stayed

The location Llanfairpwllgwyngyll was really great and a bit of pop luck really as we don’t know Wales at all really. We were on the land of a National Trust Estate: Plas Newydd House and Gardens, which was so lovely to wander around for the first few days.

We were also near to Bangor and Menai, where they had large super-markets and lots of interesting restaurants potted about. And, we were close to Snowdonia and surrounds too!

For the foodie’s

We mostly cooked delicious meals at the cottage as I’m on a slimming world diet and didn’t want to over indulge, however, we did pop out to this vegan cafe named ‘The Green Olive’ which was really really tasty! We did try to pop back there on the Monday to try the infamous pancakes, but it was sadly closed.

Three other great places to eat around the Menai area were ‘Dylan’s’ were I had the most amazing Salmon linguine. ‘+44’ for some tasty pizza’s and ‘Codmother’ for some lovely fish and chips.

Locations for hiking

Cwm Idwal Nature Reserve: This is a super rocky climb which leads onto walking up ‘Devil’s Kitchen’ which is towards the right once you pass through the gate, and is rated a hard hike! I very much struggled towards the top of the mountain as it was so steep and it was raining, so didn’t complete it all the way round sadly. We did do around 5k and it took 1 hour and forty five mins.

There is an easier route, where you can walk around the lake, instead of up the mountain.

An easier hike was walking up towards Aber Falls which is located in Snowondia. It took around an hour and twenty minutes to walk 5k there and back. I’d say this walk is very family friendly, we saw lots of kids near the falls.

Newborough Beach: This was a gorgeous relaxing walk we did after Joe finished work one evening. A beautiful sandy dog friendly beach where we walked around 4k.

Betws-y-coed, a picturesque town that I’m glad we stumbled across.

There are lots of cute shops and foodie places here. However, we just wandered around.

So that’s my postcards from Wales, a little guide for anyone who is interested in exploring the north of Wales.

It was my first time visiting Wales and we had a fab time! We’re already thinking about tackling the infamous Snowdon hike at some point later this year, but without the doggo as it would be too strenuous on his little legs.
