A Reflection On 2019

It’s becoming a tradition that I write a reflection post every year! I always like to look back on the good (and bad) times and reflect on the year I’ve had. It’s safe to say 2019 you’ve been a goodun’.

Also, you may be thinking Zoey why on earth are you wearing sandals in winter?! Don’t worry, these photo’s are old, but thought they would work well celebrating the year of 2019.

January

Let’s roll back to January shall we…

The month where Joe and I became vegetarian’s. Originally we were trialing it for a month, but now it’s been a year since becoming veggie! I’ve slipped up a few times but for the most part I’ve stuck to it! More on that here.

January was also a time where I felt most reflective. I thought about the year overall, and how 2019 would be the year of self love, kindness and happiness.

February

A few moments stood out to me in February, one being travelling to Edinburgh for Joe’s birthday with family. It was such a fun trip filled with lots of food, booze and happiness. See my Edinburgh foodie guide here.

Another was a particular date day Joe and I had in London. We went to Christopher’s for brunch (oh my god, the french toast was out of this world), then Bao for dinner. I did slip up and eat meat for dinner (hides head in shame). Read more about our date day here.

March

A few day’s that stood out to me in March were both afternoon tea days out. I treated Joe to afternoon tea at the Hilton hotel on park lane, what a great day! I also treated my mum to afternoon tea at Cafe Royal for Mother’s day. Both were delicious.

April

The month of weddings! Joe and I celebrated our friends Chris and Ciara and Billy and Kat’s big days. Both such gorgeous days.

Another day that stood out to me was Owen’s (Joe’s cousin) birthday bash at Swingers golf and Pergola. I can’t believe I managed to wangle first place in my team, I’m normally not that lucky! Such a fun day out!

I also got to try Milk Train for the first time. Candyfloss ice-cream goodness. Here’s an insta snap in all its glory.

May

In May Joe and I got the opportunity to visit Malmo and Copenhagen once again. We were over for a friend’s wedding – my first time experiencing a Swedish wedding. Lots of food, drink and games were had, as well as an epic Swedish wedding cake. I remember it being SO tasty!

The day after the wedding, a bunch of us explored Copenhagen, it was lovely walking around and finding a pub for more drinks!

June

June was quite quiet on the blog, however I do remember seeing one of my favourite bands for the 6th or 7th time, Alexisonfire. Dallas’ voice is just incredible.

We also got our bathroom renovated in June. It’s now my second favourite room in the house. Marble and grey goodness.

July

If I’m being honest, I don’t remember July too much. It was a quiet month on my blog and Instagram so I was most likely busy enjoying life without social media for a change.

One special moment in July was celebrating mine and Joe’s one year anniversary being home owners. I can’t believe we’ve lived in our little home for a year and a half, it’s crazy how fast time flies.

August

I can’t quite remember much of August either. However, Joe and I had a date day in London, were we ate afternoon tea at the Town house, Kensington.

September

I celebrated my blog’s fifth birthday! I didn’t do a post dedicated to it’s birthday as I actually forgot this year, however I will remember next year’s as it’ll be 6 years I’ve been writing on my little blog bubble!

In early September Joe and I travelled to Koh Samui, Thailand as an early 30th birthday treat. I’ve been meaning to go back to Thailand for years as it’s one of my favourite countries and it did not disappoint. Koh Samui was a very quiet relaxing island and we shared such special moments like feeding the elephants at a sanctuary and island hopping around some smaller islands. To see my Koh Samui travel guide click here.

It was also mine and Joe’s nine year anniversary (how has it been nine years already?!) where we celebrated at The Berkeley. We indulged on afternoon tea once more, a fancy Dior afternoon tea.

October

Scorpio season! My birthday month!

I can’t believe I’m now 30. My twenties were reasonably kind to me, lots of ups and downs but I feel like I’ve grown as a person. I’ve learned how to be a lot more relaxed, got my dream job and discovered a bunch of likes and dislikes.

On my actual birthday Joe treated me to a three course meal at Clos Maggorie. It’s been on my list for yonks and I’m SO happy that we got to go. We had the most beautiful and delicious food here. We also went to Cahoots for drinks afterwards – I’ve been there a handful of times now and still love it. The following day we took it pretty easy, the Saturday, I celebrated at Dirty Martini bottomless brunch with a group of close friends and on the Sunday I had a big family pub lunch. I felt truly spoilt, thankful and lucky that I have such great family and friends.

November

Joe and I celebrated three years of being married in early November. We celebrated in ‘style’ at Nando’s, then watched a film. It’s becoming a bit of a tradition of Nando’s and film every year, simple and affordable but I love it.

We also celebrated my best friend Nicol’s 30th birthday in London. We ate at a gorgeous pub in Greenwich, followed by drinks at Southbank. A great day!

Joe and I also explored Hampstead, we wandered around the park and eat and drank our hearts out at cute little coffee shops.

November was also the month I sadly got made redundant. I’ve had a lot of free time working on my blog, working on my portfolio and seeing a lot of my family.

December

I started a new job in London – it’s only temp for 3 months but loving it so far. I’m doing Digital Design again, hooray. Any who, the office has a really friendly vibe to it and, the lunches are divine!

I also had a lovely Christmas break with family and friends in Corby and Watford. Back to work on the 30th!

So, that summarises each month of 2019 – what a year… It’s been a goodun’ despite being made redundant at the start of November. Lots of happy and amazing moments to look back on.

Hope everyone has had a great year and I look forward to what 2020 will bring!
